The international airport and harbor are situated in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Tartu is easily reached from Tallinn by bus. For the orientation see a clickable map of Estonia.

It is highly recommended to book airline tickets as soon as possible, as the lines are heavily loaded in summertime.

Tallinn Intercity Bus Terminal is at a distance of about 2 km from Tallinn Airport (see clickable map of Tallinn). For transfer to the former, you can use city bus #2 (harbor direction). It comes every 20 minutes and costs 15 EEK. You have to get out at the stop 'Autobussijaam'. However, better and easier is to use taxi, preferably of companies Tulika Takso and Linnatakso. They have the same tariff: standard service charge 15 EEK plus 7 EEK / km (minimum total 35 EEK). In most cabs, a credit-card (VISA, Eurocard / MasterCard) payment is acceptable.

There are about 50 intercity buses of different companies to Tartu per day. A simple rule for the buses of the Sebe company is: on all weekdays from 7:00 to 19:00 on the hour plus 7:30, 8:30, 10:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 17:30, 18:30 (line #724, travel time 2:25, fare 75 EEK, cash only).
