About

The non-hydrostatic HIRLAM is an extension of the numerical weather prediction model HIRLAM to take account non-hydrostatic effects of the atmospheric dynamics. The non-hydrostatic HIRLAM is developed and maintained by R. Rõõm and A. Männik with the help and contributions from HIRLAM community. It is acoustically filtered model and supports the explicit and semi-implicit Eulerian and semi-implicit semi-Lagrangian time-integration schemes. For the detatiled description of the model please have a look at HIRLAM Technical Reports.

The non-hydrostatic code is currently based on the reference HIRLAM version 7.1.0. The latest "official" version of the non-hydrostatic HIRLAM is 1.1.0.

Documentation

HIRLAM Technical Reports (in PDF format): Scientific papers: Very little documentation is included with releases in directory doc/

Download

The code is useless without the HIRLAM reference system. Please look here for terms of obtaining the HIRLAM code. The releases of the non-hydrostatic code can be downloaded from here . Please contact us to get the login information.

"Unofficial" extensions

It is difficult to develop the code which would satisfy every user. To get more efficient code, different centers may introduce changes which suit them better, but are not part of "official" releases. If they want to share their changes with the rest of community, this is right place to do it. Maybe these extensions will be part of "official" release someday.

Known problems

Here is the list of known problems of non-hydrostatic code, which hopefully get fixed in next releases.
